To All BOSL Players/Families,
Well, our first tournament is in the books and I think it would be fitting to start this blog with a heartfelt thank you to our Tournament Director, Tom Clancy. To say he did an outstanding job at putting on this weekend for all of us would be a gross understatement. He is a little closer to the big guy upstairs than our past Tournament Director was (he is taller, so it does makes sense) and we were blessed with great weather all weekend long! Tom, on behalf of the entire league, thank you for your tremendous efforts and for giving us such a memorable weekend.
To Great Lakes Hydraulics - job well done boys! You are very deserving Tournament Champions! Deeth and Co also had a fantastic tournament and gave it a good run in what was an excellent Championship Game.
Congratulations are also in order for our Consolation Champions, McCleary Electric. They slowly gained momentum throughout the tourney and defeated the Door Dudes in the Consolation Final.
Finally, I would like to thank all those involved in making our guests, the Burlington Blues, feel so welcome. The exhibition game turned out to be a lot of fun and the atmosphere created by the many players/families who cheered them on (and booed us!) was very much appreciated!
Until next time....
Take care,
Mike Porkolab

May 12th President's Blog
Hello fellow players!
Hopefully you're all enjoying the season so far. It's been a good start for some teams and a challenging start for others - but remember we're out here for fun and the wins/losses are secondary.
We had an issue with the the lights at Sherwood last night - my apologies to those that were affected. The issue has been resolved and the lights will be available to us at 8pm effective immediately for both Nelson C and Sherwood A.
As many of you know, this league is only as good as its volunteers. I was doing a quick count of the player lists, and I estimate that over half of the league (120 guys) have either been a captain, a board member or have done volunteer work on some level for the BOSL over the years (tournaments, website, etc.) - I encourage those of you that are either new to the league or have not yet had a chance to volunteer in some capacity to come forward and lend a helping hand where you can this year. It's both rewarding on a personal level and also helps make the league and its various events run smoothly.
We have received some negative feedback on the pricing for the golf tournament. Without getting on my soap box here, if you are on the fence and/or upset because of the change from $110.00 last year to $150.00 plus HST, I wanted to point out the fact that most of the increase is going straight to the charity (Carpenter Hospice) - In addition, there are a ton of extras this year that have taken our small league tourney and turned it into an premier event.
I won't let the cat out of the bag, but there are going to be 2 or 3 celebrities involved, the hamburger/salad-type of dinner is now a Prime Rib Dinner, there will be a Silent Auction and 4 specialty hole-in-one holes with significant prizes for a hole-in-one and secondary prizes for hitting the green, mats, etc.
So your extra $40.00 is going a long way and I believe the focus should not be on the fact that it is $40.00 more than last year, but more importantly, that your $40.00 is going to a great cause and that the tournament itself has been upgraded considerably for your enjoyment.
Wayne McSpadden, Steve Moore, Mark Flood and their team have worked very hard to give our league and our community a golf tournament to remember - let's support them this year and get the word out, sign up ourselves, help them get sponsors and show the community yet again why we are the most community-minded Slo Pitch League in Canada.
That's all for now - good luck to everyone in the coming weeks!
Yours truly,
Mike Porkolab

BOSL 2010
To All BOSL Players,
On behalf of your Board of Directors, I would like to welcome you to the 2010 BOSL Season. This season holds a special significance as it is our 30th Anniversary and one in which we will unveil several new changes that I believe will make what is already the best Slo-Pitch League in Canada that much better!
